Training the future jousters
In the city of Sète, in the Hérault department, nautical jousting holds an essential place at the heart of the local traditions. This traditional sport, formalized in 1666 following the creation of the port, participates in the renown of Sète. Perched on tintaines (platforms attached above the water) on their respective boats, two jousters compete in an attempt to push their opponent overboard with a spear. The tintaines are equipped with toe clips to resist the impact of the opposing spear. For 45 years, the jousting school of the Marine of Sète has been responsible for training young local amateurs through initiations in traditional Languedoc jousting.
