Forest on limestone rock of Lifou

The dense evergreen forest on limestone rock occupied all of the Loyalty Islands and remains very present in Lifou, unlike in Maré where it has been reduced to make room for crops. It is composed of Schefflera, Elaeocarpus, Planchonella, Kohu (Inkia) and Bunï (Manilkara) in its upper stratum while its undergrowth is generally covered with a carpet of Microsorium or Asplenium ferns.
