In the Kanak world, man and environment interact with each other. For the Paicî of the Poindimié region, nature is a country (näpô) made up of all its living (clans, lineages) or dead (ancestors, spirits) human and non-human (minerals, plants, animals) inhabitants. This combination of natural and supernatural elements allows for a continuum between the terrestrial and supernatural worlds. Mountain and forest areas are namely the privileged habitat of these supernatural entities.
