The town of Forcalquier extends in the heart of Provence between plain and mountain, equidistant from the Rhône, the Alps, and the Mediterranean Sea. Its position has made it the balance point of the movements between Upper and Lower Provence that have punctuated the history of the populations in a secular swing. Over the seasons, farmers, shepherds, or peddlers passed incessantly from one to the other loaded with wood and cheese on the way out, salt and fish on the way back. A relay and a base, Forcalquier brought together the inhabitants from the Montagne de Lure to the Luberon around its weekly market for centuries.
