White bottoms and natural swimming pools

Madame islet in Baie du Robert is renowned for its white bottoms that constitute a highly touristy feature of Martinique. White bottoms are places where the sea is very shallow and where the sandy bottom is almost level with the surface of the water. They can be located in the open sea and several hundred meters from the beach. Made up of bioclastic debris and coarse white sands, they give the water colors ranging from pastel blue to turquoise blue via emerald green and look like swimming pools. They are protected and very secure swimming areas in crystal clear water without swells or overheating from the Caribbean sun. Located between the islets, the sandy shallows of Le Robert are accessible by boat. The most famous is that of the Trapeze close to Madame islet.
