The flow of waterfalls

The waters of cascades obey the laws of gravity and descend at increasing speed. Their flow can widen and disperse, following the topography of the break in slope which created them. Below the cliff, the fault or here the tuff deposits that they traverse, they fall back in the regular course of their original river or torrent. In temperate zones subject to heavy snowfalls, such as in Planches-près-Arbois in the Jura massif, their flow increases in spring, when the snowmelt feeds the watercourses.
