The highly toxic venom of the Flowery Urchin is the most powerful of those found in echinoderms. It can be ejected by its pedicellaria in the form of 1.57-1.96inches (4-5cm) in diameter discoid corollas which close like claws. They are equipped with venom glands containing a powerful paralytic neurotoxin : a simple caress of the hand can cause the death of a man by choking in less than one hour.
