Flora of Makatea
The flora of Makatea results from the anthropization of the island during the period of the phosphate exploitation and from the richness of the soil. Numerous species (mango, breadfruit, lemon and fake pistachio nut trees, acacias, loquats...) have been planted next to two endemic resistant species : the Makatea palm tree and the 'maïere' which is a fern.
