The flamboyant tree (Delonix regia) is a tropical ornamental tree of the Caesalpiniaceae (classical classification) or Fabaceae (phylogenetic classification) family. It is easily identifiable thanks to its spectacular scarlet blooming. In Nouméa, it flowers profusely between November and January, its red flowers symbolizing the onset of summer and drought.
