The flora of the New Caledonian coast is quite poor in endemic species but it plays an important role in the coastal preservation and the fight against erosion. The plants found there are often common to the Pacific area and well known to the inhabitants of the different islands. They have been using them for generations for their alimentation and health as well as to build their homes and boats.
