Orient Lake's level is variable and quite low at the end of summer and in autumn. Its landscape is likely to freeze briefly in winter. These particular conditions favor specific vegetation, whose arrangement varies with the humidity level of the soil. It consists, among other things, of pondweed and water lily rafts, floating plants, and lentil vegetation. In the lake's reed beds grow the marsh germander, protected in the Champagne-Ardenne region, and the water buttercup, protected throughout the country.
