The Gulf of Fonseca is the only opening of Honduras towards the Pacific Ocean. It receives five rivers’ waters - Río Nacaome, Río Amatillo, Río Goascorán, Río Choluteca, and Río Sumpile - which form mangrove areas. The river Nacaome flows into the Chismuyo Bay.
