Since 1996, Saint-Valery-en-Caux in the Seine-Maritime department has been rewarded each year for its floral decor. As displayed at the entrance to the town, it received four flowers in the Villes et Villages Fleuris (Cities and Villages in Bloom) national competition. The flowers soften the modern post-war architecture, the city center having been 70% destroyed during a battle involving German Marshal Rommel during WWII. It was completely razed and rebuilt, and the city was transformed into a seaside resort.
