In the Étang de Thau (Thau pond), the only fishing techniques practiced are small trade and artisanal techniques. Fisheries are exploited by individual fishermen or family groups using small boats and traditional dormant gear. Fishing or shellfish farming has long been the main activity on the Étang de Thau. However, artisanal fishing appears to be in sharp decline as resources are running out despite the installation of quotas destined to protect them.
