Fire corals of the Millepora genus are very urticating. Their colonies take the form of yellow-brown vertical limestone structures in the shape of leaves, plates or branches up to 11.8 to 23.6in (30 to 60cm). The skeleton of these colonies is composed of calcareous deposits perforated with numerous pores from which defensive polyps emerge.
