Fief of André Breton

It is not easy to pass through Saint-Cirq without thinking of its most famous inhabitant, the French poet, and writer André Breton. He established his summer home in a former 13th-century sailor inn until he died in 1966. Breton spent all his summers in this inn located on Place du Carol at the bottom of the village. The artist discovered the locality around a bend in the Route sans frontières n.1, which passed through. He would later write that Saint-Cirq had appeared to him as an impossible rose in the night.
