Opened to the public in 1998, the Guédelon construction site is a massive tourist success. Five years later, it ranked fifth among French castles with 182,000 paid admissions behind Chambord (480,789), the Haut-Kœnigsbourg (372,384), the Cité de Carcassonne (219,417), and Azay-le-Rideau (198,995). One of the reasons for this high attendance is Guédelon's ability to bring visitors back regularly as it is an evolving site whose renewal of the offer generates immediate loyalty. As a consequence, a third of adults return every three years and two-thirds of school children every two years.
