If the practice of surfing in New Caledonia is not as widespread as that of windsurfing or kitesurfing because of the accessibility of the spots, the geographic location of the archipelago makes it an excellent destination. The swell generated by the depressions which develop between Tasmania and New Zealand is particularly beautiful, especially between May and September when the waves reach up to 14.7ft (4.5m) and the wind conditions are very favorable.
