Fatu Hiva, remote and hard to reach
Geologically young, Fatu Hiva is a high island with a steep relief. Deprived of any airstrip, it is connected to the other islands of the Marquesas only by boat, in at least three hours. The southernmost island of the Marquesas archipelago, it is the only one to be protected by a coral reef that the fishermen have to cross to reach the open sea.
