The Jura region is the cradle of the wooden toy. Its history dates back to the Middle Ages, when monks made wooden religious objects for pilgrims. The peasants of the surrounding farms, in search of additional income in winter, took over this know-how and made wooden toys for the children of pilgrims from the 14th century. Since 1911, Vilac has been making emblematic toys like the little racing cars.
