The golden pheasant (Chrysolophus pictus) is a species of bird in the Phasianidae family. It orivginated in China and was introduced to Britain, but its habits of life in nature are still rather poorly known. Georges Cuvier (1769-1832) believed that the description of the phoenix found in particular in Pliny the Elder (23-79) was probably that of a golden Pheasant. The male has a very colorful plumage, which has made it a frequent bird in aviaries and zoos.
