Shaped by water and earthquakes

The Champagne soil owes its nature to the sea, which withdrew 70 million years ago. Twenty million years ago, an earthquake raised the ground and shattered its chalk layer, permeating it with marine and mineral elements. Later, another of greater intensity created steeply hilly terrain. These natural factors are conducive to the development of vines of numerous grape varieties. The characteristics of the terroirs influence the wines depending on whether they mainly consist of sandstone, limestone, clay, or chalk.
