Exploring the via ferrata

The Tellure mining park in Sainte-Marie-aux-Mines allows exploring its underground galleries through a via ferrata. It constitutes a unique apparatus in Alsace and the first of its kind in France. The course rises to a height of 394 ft (120 m), combining climbing and caving and allowing the observation of silver veins exploited in the 16th century. The rocky walls are equipped with cables, steps, walkways, ladders, and even a zipline. The Saint-Jean vein, mainly made of silver and lead, was discovered in 1549 by a miner named Collin Schwartz.
