Under the influence of Earth’s rotation, winds, sea currents and shocks with drifting icebergs, the sea ice moves, breaks, compresses. When two ice plates collide, compression ridges are formed, up to 10 meters high. Compression ridges allow Inuit to establish hunting camps sheltered from the wind.
