Lake Vouglans attracts water sports enthusiasts, as well as fishermen and divers. Renowned for pike-perch, pike and carp fishing, it is also famous for two exceptional diving sites : on the 'Chartreuse de Vaucluse', a 12th century abbey built by Carthusian monks and drowned when the dam was flooded in 1968 and on the ancient 196 feet (60 m) high and 39 feet (12 m) wide dam engulfed today under 180 to 295 feet (55 to 90 m) of water.
