Evolution and danger of fire corals

0
Millepora species are commonly referred to as fire corals. Their cnidocysts - stinging capsules - cause pains similar to burns. They are present on the reefs and in the quieter waters of the lagoons. All morphologies, more or less robust or arborescent, seem to begin with an encrusting stage that can be found at any depth and covers the surface of dead corals.
