The gray cicada (Cicada orni) normally rather lives in the plains of regions subject to a Mediterranean climate such as Provence. However, the climatic changes in recent decades have extended its distribution to the north and areas of higher altitude. The gray cicada can now, therefore, be found in some valleys of the Massif des Écrins on hot summer days and in the Isère department, up to an altitude of 5,249 ft (1,600 m).
