The distant and more recent activity of Lake Pavin arouses the interest of specialists and attracts the attention of public authorities, which have taken protective measures. The events reported, such as mudslides in the Couze valley or the presence of materials in the lake, are systematically analyzed. The slopes of the lake's tuff ring have been fitted with a monitoring device, and stability studies of this relatively young relief are regularly carried out.
