In the face of the threat to the species, coral reef remote sensing specialists are studying the distribution, reproduction rate and renewal of Giant clam populations in order to assess the evolution of fishing pressure and to define management measures for a sustainable exploitation of the species. The implementation of these measures involves the island communities living from the exploitation of these molluscs.
