Corsica has three main stages of vegetation. The intermediate stage located between 1,640 and 4,921 feet (500-1,500m), is the field of chestnut trees, very widespread up to 2,624 feet (800m), and laricio pines with their straight trunks. They are locally associated with other species of conifers and neighbors with beeches above 3,280 feet (1,000m). The highest mountain ranges are mostly rocky with some spongy grasslands around the lakes and junipers up to the peaks.
