The municipality of Ponérihouen (Pwäräiriwa) - which means 'the mouth of the river' in Paicî language - is located south of the North Province, on the east coast of Grande-Terre, 174mi (280km) north of Nouméa and 18.6mi (30km) south of Poindimié. Its territory is made up of a succession of three valleys oriented west-east : that of the Tchamba river to the north, the Nérihouen river in the center and the Monéo-Néavin rivers - which appear in this aerial view - to the south.
