Essential musical organ
The male cicada has a unique musical organ to which its abdomen gives pride of place. The whole rear part of its belly is indeed completely hollow, like the inside of a guitar, to better serve as a soundbox. Such a specificity testifies to the importance of singing for the species' survival, as it allows males to attract females for reproduction.
