About 800 species of fish populate the waters of French Polynesia against 2,500 in the Malay province, 2,000 on the Great Barrier Reef of Australia or 1,000 in the New Caledonian lagoon. More than 100 different species represented by numerous individuals live together in an apparent overpopulation made possible by their infinite diversity of sizes, shapes, diets, behaviors and life rhythms.
