Sainte-Catherine Church in Honfleur raises its two naves and its bell tower close to the old basin. A first building was built in the 15th century with a nave in the shape of an upside-down boat. A second structure was added alongside in the 16th century in a more Gothic interior style. Both rest on large oak beams hewn with an ax according to Vikings tradition. The bell tower rises on the stone bell ringer's house opposite the church to protect it from fires. It used to house six to eight bells. The buildings are partially covered with essentes (wooden tiles) of chestnut in the best Norman tradition.
