Exaltation-de-la-Sainte-Croix Church is one of the rare examples of a half-timbered church whose structure was erected in one piece. Stone being scarce in the Aube department, men built churches likes their homes out of mud, cob, and wood. Exaltation-de-la-Sainte-Croix Church dominates the village of Bailly-le-Franc and is part of a group of half-timbered churches from the 16th and 17th centuries, gathered in the northeast of the Aube. An 85 ft slate-covered spire (26 m) dominates the second span of its nave.
