The Lérins Islands are among the rare areas spared by urbanization and the developments of the coast of the Alpes-Maritimes, which sometimes include the sea. This exception widely contributes to the value of their heritage. Sainte-Marguerite Island nevertheless presents an artificialized solid ground over 787 ft (240 m) of its coastline, corresponding to 2,05 acres (0.83 ha) taken from the sea. As for the construction of the sheltered port of Saint-Honorat Island, it artificialized 275 ft (84.25 m) of coasts and gained 0.72 acres (0.29 ha) on the sea.
