The Lac de Saint-Agnan was born in 1969 following the construction of a dyke consisting of compacted granite arena reinforced with stones. Thanks to the dam, around 30 villages are supplied with water as far as the Avallonnais. The lake is managed by a fishing and nature protection association and has been emptied twice, in 2002 and 2008. Visitors can also fish there at night along 1,968 ft (600 m) of shores, at a place called Le Moulin Brûlé. The Lac de Saint-Agnan extends on the border between the Yonne, Côte-d'Or, and Nièvre departments.
