The territory of the municipality of Venasque in the Vaucluse department extends over 8,650 acres (3,500 ha) from 449 to 2,083 ft (137 to 635 m) above sea level between the plain of Carpentras and the Monts de Vaucluse. The village itself is located on a rocky outcrop with steep slopes at the exit of the Nesque gorges. Venasque is about 6.8 m (11 km) southeast of Carpentras and 18.6 miles (30 km) east/northeast of Avignon.
