Between the Rhône and the Canal du Midi

The Canal du Rhône à Sète connects the Rhône to the Canal du Midi for about 62 miles (100 km) from Beaucaire to Sète crossing Camargue. It mostly aims at transporting goods, which requires specific constraining maintenance. Essential and regular dredging operations guarantee the navigability of large 295 ft (90 m) or more gauges. Suffering from a lack of notoriety compared to the Rhône and the Canal du Midi, the Canal du Rhône à Sète does not lack assets and offers remarkable river and maritime heritage around the Rhône, the Petite Camargue, the ponds, the Mediterranean, the Languedoc lagoon complex, towns of character and history such as Aigues-Mortes and its medieval center or Sète and its maritime jousts, and the seaside towns on the coast.
