Between the Meuse and the Woëvre

Lake Madine extends between the coasts of the Meuse and the plain of Woëvre. This area of marshes and forests has become the breadbasket of the Lorraine region, thanks to the continuous draining of its wetlands. Numerous vines scatter along the Meuse's coasts, bordering the plain. The wines of the Côtes de Meuse were classified in 1982 in the category Vins de Pays. At their feet grow the mirabelle plum orchards which contribute to the reputation of Lorraine.
