With an altitude of 3,713 ft (1,132 m), the rock of Orméa dominates the village of Castellar, perched at 1,217 ft (371 m) in the Alpes-Maritimes department. If its eastern slope rises gently from Col du Berceau (3,444 ft / 1,050 m), its western slope forms a rocky pyramid above Menton and the Mediterranean. The rock of Orméa stands a few dozen meters only as the crow flies from the Italian border, from which it is separated by the Roches Longues.
