Endemic species
The Kuhl's Lorikeet with its exceptionally colorful plumage is part of the thirty or so terrestrial bird - 'manu' in Polynesian - species of French Polynesia. Most are endemic and occupy the Marquesas archipelago. Rimatara has the privilege of two species locally called 'Ura de Rimatara for the Kuhl's Lorikeet (Vinikuhlii) and Oroma'o for the Rimatara's Reed (Acrocephalus rimatarae).
