Emblematic symbol of the city

Since the 5th century, Mont Sainte-Croix in Metz has been a sacred place. Its sanctuary, dedicated to Saint Stephen, and the church of Sainte Mary watched over the city. Spared by the Attila and the Huns in 451, their reputation grew stronger. The construction of Saint-Stephen Cathedral joined the two buildings together and increased the people's fervor. Its stones, golden under the sunlight, make it visible from everywhere in town. The whole city of Metz celebrated its 800 years of existence in 2020.
