Emblematic of 18th-century Le Havre

The Maison de l'Armateur is an emblematic museum of Le Havre history. With its 18th-century architecture and an interior composition organized around a central skylight, the Maison de l'Armateur was miraculously saved from the bombardments of 1944 and listed as a Historical Monument. The building, a symbol of 18th-century Le Havre, was more of a designer house. It belonged to the city's architect Paul-Michel Thibault, who had it built around 1790, and later to the wealthy shipowner merchant Martin Foäche.
