These elephants have just finished their bath, and will spend the night eating. Elephants are very active at night. They enjoy the coolness of the night to travel or even to feed. Their diet is based on leaves, buds, shoots, twigs, branches, fruits, berries, barks, roots or bulbs, depending on the season and the locality. They eat up to 661lbs (300kg) a day. They practice geophagia, and chew soil in case of mineral deficiencies.
