The elephant tusks are actually modified upper incisors teeth, curved and protruding. They grow throughout the animal lifetime. Those of the male, larger, reach up to 118 inches long (3m). Weapon against predators or other elephants, they are also a major tool, used to push branches, to clean soil off their food, or even to dig up roots or tubers.
