Elephant trunk, a sensitive organ
1
0
The elephant's trunk is an extremely flexible muscular organ thanks to its 6 main muscle groups subdivided in more than 100,000 units. These muscles are divided into two distinct sets of pairs that the elephant can use with precision and refinement. The skin that covers the front of the trunk is ringed with small crevices and has a rare coating of fine sensory hairs making it one of the most sensitive organs of the elephant.
