"La Jamais Contente" (The Never Contented) was an electric car designed and driven by the Belgian Camille Jénatzy. On April 29, 1899, he broke the automobile speed record, then held by the count of Chasseloup-Laubat (57.35 mph / 92.78 km/h) with 65.79 mph (105.88 km/h). It was the first car to cross the 62 mph (100 km/h) threshold. The car was shaped like a torpedo, perched high on small wheels. Its body was innovative because composed of partinium, an alloy of aluminum, tungsten, and laminated magnesium, and was built by Rothschild. Electric cars were produced until 1909, before being supplanted by petrol engines.
