The Eau Bénite (Holy Water) bell tower of Cluny Abbey surprises visitors with its octagonal shape. Its eight faces and two floors of bays and arcades completed around 1125 contribute to the character of the Cluniac ensemble. The structure rises 196 ft (60 m) above the dome of the abbey church and remains one of the most renowned octagonal bell towers in Burgundy. The Eau Bénite bell tower is flanked by a smaller square bell tower with a floor of twin bays known as the Clocher de l'Horloge (Clock Tower).
