Given their large size compared to their small and massive legs, Giant Plates Lizards also move by sliding on their belly in slopes. To escape their predators (snakes, mammals or birds) they can slip into rock crevices and inflate their bodies to jam themselves in. They also practice autotomy and are able to lose their tail and regenerate it.
